Through the years, Fitbit has released several Versa models with jumps in features for every release. Here’s why it matters what Fitbit Versa model you own.

The Fitbit Versa You Own Matters

If you know what Fitbit Versa model you own, you can understand its limitations and use it to its full potential. Moreover, it can also help you know if it’s time to upgrade to a more fitting Fitbit model.

In general, the Fitbit Versa carries an appearance similar to the Apple Watch with softer edges. While no Fitbit Versa model is waterproof, Fitbit introduced several features such as a water lock for its later models. Features like Spotify, Pandora & Alexa integration, and a built-in GPS also vary.

Since its initial release, Fitbit has followed a two-year release cycle for new Fitbit Versa models. In 2022, Fitbit has so far (time of writing: June 2022) released three generations of the Versa models: the Versa Original, Versa 2, and Versa 3. In addition, there are three variants for the Fitbit Versa model: Standard, Special, and Lite.

By knowing your Fitbit Versa model, you can compare it with other Fitbit models and determine whether it’s still the right watch for you. Here’s how you can know what model your Fitbit is.

The Number of Buttons

While there are numerous ways to differentiate the different generations of Fitbit Versa models, one quick way is paying attention to the number of buttons.

Case Colors

After paying attention to the different button placements, you can determine what your Fitbit Versa model is based on the colors.

Although all Fitbit Versa models will have bands that you can replace or swap, there are only a limited number of casing colors per model. While some colors are a little standard, like black, there are slightly different shades for other cases across models.

Versa Lite models come in silver, lilac, marina blue, and mulberry.

The original Versa watch comes in black, rose gold, and silver. Meanwhile, the Versa 2 comes in carbon (black), mist gray, and copper rose.

The Versa 3 comes in soft gold and black.

Display Type and Size

While the Fitbit Versa 2 came out at the same price point as the original Versa, there was a slight variation in screen size. With this, the Versa 2 has a slightly larger screen and always-on option. This trend for larger screens continued with the Versa 3.

GPS Tracking

When it comes to GPS tracking, the Fitbit Versa Lite, Original, and Versa 2 do not have GPS tracking capabilities. As of writing, only the Fitbit Versa 3 can do GPS tracking on its own, which is why it’s the recommended model for people who run, jog, or bike.

However, it is possible to use connected GPS with your Fitbit Versa Lite, Original, and Versa 2 using your phone’s GPS receiver. Although, it’s important to remember that connected GPS requires your phone to be within proximity to your Fitbit when during your workout.

Know What Your Versa Model Is

With technology improving exponentially every year, knowing what Fitbit model you own can help you make the best out of it and its features. In addition, knowing the model of your Fitbit can also help you determine whether it’s time to upgrade or not.

These days, there are also plenty of other smartwatches on the market—which can offer you different things depending on your needs. So, if none of the current Fitbit models fit your needs, you may want to try an Apple Watch or Garmin instead.
